Lesson 5 - RSS and Feed Readers

This evening, I registered with Bloglines through my gmail account and created 4 RSS feeds to follow: Unshelved (library comics), BBC News, MSNBC News and NPR Morning Edition. I am kind of a quasi-news junkie, but only subscribe to one print newspaper currently, so I like that the news can come to me hot off the wire through these feeds. Unshelved is a great way to remind me of the humor in some of our daily library tasks and to remind all of us that we are part of a huge library community!

I often listen to NPR Morning Edition and intend to go online to read further about a topic or to forward a program link to a family member. Having the feed come to me will be less time consuming and much easier.

  1. Did you find yourself inundated w/news feeds? I would think that subscribing to RSS from 3 news agents would be a lot.

  2. Yes - I have to admit; I have only gone back to Bloglines 2 or 3 times since registering. I usually just go directly to the website (for NPR, Seattle Times, whatever) which I have already bookmarked, if looking for a specific article.
